Erebus
It had been decades since I had left my small herd, just a handful of reject mares that I had gathered. And yet now for some odd reason I was being drawn back, my ebony pillars carrying me to the land that I had long ago inhabited. Little had changed. The tall charcoal mountains still loomed in the distance, glass lake still mirroring the image in the middle. Ah, but there was a difference. No longer was the sky stained with raven blood, but the sun shone through puffy cloud wisps and warmed my back. Oh no no no, this will not do, will not do at all.
My voice was deep and gravelly, rumbling out from deep within my chest. I fancied the dark, for that was when I thrived. And as I gazed at my new homeland, onyx orbs smoldering, all color began to fade, as if the terrain’s very soul was being sucked out. Within seconds the sky faded to a steely color, mist hanging thick in the air as newly created fog danced upon the ground, and dark shadows lurked behind every solid object. I took in a deep breath, nostrils enlarging in tandem with my lungs, and let it out very slowly. Much better. My voice was a soft whisper this time as I admired my work. I had to say, it was looking rather eerie here now. Just the way I liked it. This land, my home, was like me in many ways. What had started out as something glorious was so easily turned into havoc, and all that had changed was a single beast. The land had gained one more, and with it a burden. But there was sure to be more to come. I would replenish this land, bring many horses together here, and maybe my life would feel full once more. I needed something to make me feel alive again, and some young spirits were just the thing. Now only to find such creatures… A sigh slid from between my downturned lips as I began to leave, my home emptied quicker than it had been filled.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]
