If I show up in the near future and seem all depressed....
Right now, it looks like we're probably going to have to put one of our horses down. She's an older mare, and earlier at the beginning of the fall, she started losing weight. We started upping her grain, and she packed the pounds back on. However, in the past week or so, she's dropped so much weight... She hasn't been eating lately, and she just lays down in the pasture and does nothing. We can see all of her hip bones and ribs, and she's just lost all muscle mass. She looks horrible, and she's losing sight in one eye. Our winters generally are rather harsh, so it doesn't look likely at all that she'll survive. She's going to freeze without any kind of muscle or fat on her, even with a winter blanket. We don't have a barn to put her in.
So, unfortunately, we're probably going to have to put her down. She's had a lot of health issues lately, and she's been very colicky in the past month. She's too lame in her back foot to ever be ridden again, and there's nothing we can do for her anymore. If she won't eat... We just don't want to put her through a few weeks of winter and end up having her freeze to death, or starve to death.
So I may be really upset when I come back from my inactivity. Sorry about that, by the way. I've got Cross Country right now; States on Saturday. We ran regionals and won yesterday, so... yeah.
