Daddy, you promised...
"I wish you wouldn't interfere." "We can't help it. I wish you wouldn't complain." "Do you have any idea how difficult it is now? The ones that discovered the way out... They'll only spread the word and it will be impossible!" "I didn't say you couldn't keep collecting." "And you'll just go on keeping your secrets to yourselves, yes?" "I don't know what you mean." "I think you know." "I want to hear you explain it."
The dark stallion drew in a deep breath, as if holding it in his massive chest. His nostrils flared in the cold night air. "Your war will destroy me. But you want them to be redeemed, and in doing so you're steadily draining me of whatever power I had. But you won't tell me that. Why would you? You just want me to hang on with every last inch of my strength, until I'm sucked dry as one of them. You never liked me, you never loved me. It was just a trick. For 200 years you've employed me in your service and all this time, it was just to distract me. To think of all that I could have been! But you wanted to put me in my place. You wanted to control me. How long did you think this would last?"
The black horse sighed, her chest falling slowly and delicately. She was the picture of perfection, he'd decided, and he loved to look at her. Just to look. His own daughter was so far out of reach that it was impossible to look at this mare in the way he truly saw her anymore. The way her silken black and white-streaked mane fell ove one eye, the way her dark black eyes glowed deep violet at night. She was picturesque, so beautiful. "You needed to be put to rest. You would have upset us all. Surely, you understand that." The dark stallion closed his eyes, listening to the lull of her smooth speech, and he realized that it was her voice as well that he loved about her.
"You shouldn't be so self-righteous," he remarked snidely. "Self-righteous, I am? You're accusing me?" "Of trying to follow the rules, yes. I am." "I was trying to keep things in order. You've been glad to stand at your job for the last 200 years. Why make a fuss about it now?!" "Some ladies never learn that times change. I have nothing but good intentions, Love, don't make me exploit myself." "Don't call me that. I'm not your pet." "Oh, yes, you are. You've catered to them, and to me, since we established the Prison. Covered for me; you know perfectly well what would happen if word of my existence escaped." "You wouldn't dare." "I have my ways. All I need is a new...method." "Imagine the catastrophe if they discovered your power!" "What is that?" "I think you know precisely--" "I want to hear you explain it."
The ebony mare shook her head, looking away from him. "Not here. There may be ears." She forced herself to meet his eyes with a defiant glare, but couldn't stop hr wandering glance from looking at the thing which dangled from a silver chain around his neck. The tiny crystal prism...so small and so fragile, and yet so... She dared not use words to describe it. It opened a whoe new realm of burdens and thoughts. And traps. And of course, the dark brown stallion saw her lookng there, and a sly grin curved upon his lips. She thought it made his face rather menacing-looking, though in reality he was borderline handsome. And she was the only one who knew him well enough to judge. It was a burden she had chosen to face alone, though, years and years ago. "Don't," she almost snapped when he opened his mouth to speak. "I don't want to hear it." The dark horse only grinned, his eyes flashing.
"I'll behave," he said, his words ice-cold. "For now." Without another word, he disappeared in a dark cloak of black mist the mare hadn't noticed slithering up his legs. He was gone, leaving her with the fateful, unspoken promise that their two-century-old push-pull relationship was nowhere near coming to a close.
The Warden is a strange topic to discuss, but I'm hoping we can make something of him yet. We're having the Cursed war already, so I figured it was a good time to throw him in and see what things turn up like. But my plan for The Warden is he's the one that, for 200 years has been -you guessed it- the one the gods sort of threw in to monitor the Cursed realm. He was responsible fo collecting the ones who did bad, bad crimes and the gods told him to bring them in, so he did/does.
Now that the Cursed world is being unleashed he's feeling undermined and he's coming up with a new plan. A plan to trap the souls he has by now claimed as 'his' and keep them in his little crystal he hangs around his neck. The gods, at least one of them, realizes he's now turned to 'private investors' to fuel his taste for soul-collecting because he feels entitled to 'finish his job' and he feels as though no one else is going to do it better than he is. However that god, who is the one who's taken charge of watching over him, so to speak, knows they can't exactly stop him from doing his duty because with the gods being busy as is, there wouldn't be anyone to carry out the deed, to follow through with the capturing of the Cursed.
But now that they're releasing them all, the gods will need to figure out how to deal with him when he already has power over so many...and they need to realize he might try to reveal certain secrets entrusted to him, and he himself may turn against the gods. Bear in mind he doesn't go around trapping everyone in his crystal necklace, just the bad ones he never had a chance to trap or the ones that certain individuals have pointed out he needs to put in Prison.
So I've started a hit list, so to speak, in my character log, the horses The Warden has been put up to capturing. I threw some of my characters on there, but no one else's yet because I didn't want people to think I'm taking control of their horses. I'm not exactly sure what he should do with them when he catches them, just change them into a Cursed creature or keep them in limbo/death forever. But either way, his daughter's on that list. Bonus points if you figure out who she is. Also, a bonus if you figure out her mum, and if you figure out which horse he's speaking to in the post above. So what I"m trying to say is, I need a hands up or down vote. Go ahead with this new addition? Any changes I should make in the plan? I need to know. If you guys think this is too complicated, I get it; I'll drop it. But I do have plenty of ideas, I just need a deciding vote.
