Ignid
If hearts could burn, he'd spark the fire
"Well," I looked up into the clouds, standing at the base of the towering mountain peak. "This could be a slight snag in the britches, eh?" I chuckled at my own joke. With a swat of my long ember tail, I set forth. I was sure-footed as all get-out and at the base of the hill the trail was strewn with tiny pebbles that helped me gain footing. The path zig zagged up the incline, going from a horizontal cliff's edge to a near vertical -and very awkwardly angled- path up the side of the peak. A tiny bead of sweat bristled on my brow and saliva began to form in my jaws once I neared the place where the clouds stood, covering the top of that very peak. Tossing my head, I snorted at a flyaway thorny leaf that I'd run into and pricked myself on the barbs. The plant burst into a shower of tiny sparks and crumpled to the ground. Not only that leaf burned, but I made it burn the whole plant to ashes, ad the plants all round it for good measure. When I was standing next to a pile of charred bits, I let a satisfied grin appear on my lips and moved on.
I trotted the last few paces. The top of the slope was completely enshrouded in mist so that when I continued walking forwards I was walking into gods-knew-where, but I wasn't afraid. And a few strides on it suddenly cleared up. I hadn't realized the fog had impaired both my hearing and sense of smell until it cleared; immediately a bird began to chirp and the distinctive scents of two horses wafted into my nostrils. The place seemed too peaceful! I thought I'd wandered into something not worthwhile, after I'd reasoned that only someone -or something- exceptional in some way could be owner of such a mountain. But no mind; I heard them now, as well. I set forth, my ears picked erect and head standing tall and jutting out to strain to hear the voices in the light fog.
I was a tall, broad-set horse. My coat was red dun, the color of fiery skin, and I had a large whie marking down te bridge of my nose and maybe some white markings on my legs, but I never had the time nor patience nor need to watch where I was going, so how should I know? But when my dark, flaming eyes pierced through the mist I saw two outlines and one was visibly a stallion, tall and broad shouldered like me. The other was a slimmer profile with less height; less age. A stallion and his daughter. They seemed in good accordance as well; I watched them eagerly and yet with a hint of reservation as I approached at a brisk trot. This was the stallion's terra and I'd do well to mind and respect him; I stopped squarely just strides away and nodded to him and the lady. Just for a moment; I then rose tomy full, rather imposing stature.
"Bit of a drag coming up," I commented. Just at that point, the same screeching bird flew right about my ears and the flapping noise was so loud I pinned my ears. I stamped a hoof and half-reared at it; when my teeth grazed its tailfeathers the creature burst into a tiny ball of flames rather harshly, and disentigrated into nothing. I set my jaw, watching with a dark intensity. I'd fallen deeply into thought again and, for a moment, was insensible to anything either of them might have said or did. A second later I looked up, my eyes a bit dark, and threw a glance at the daughter before looking the stallion square in the eyes. "Right, then," I began, my voice a deeper tone, more serious than before, "your allegiances--where might they be with at the present moment?"
NOTES I suddenly hae big plans for this big guy.

"It's a nice view Daddy, you picked it well," "Thank you." "It's also pretty easy to defend too." "Uh huh." "Daddy, that's boring." "I know Baby Doll, that's why we stand here with our backs turned and pretend we don't know anybody's coming up." "But there is somebody coming up." "I know."
The two of them both turned around at the exact same moment, staring at the red horse.
