STOLEN in a raid, a band of stallions came to his herd and held the mares and foals hostage and brutally killed the stallion, and was going to capture all of them when a winter storm blew in and they needed to move out right away with the horses; the stallions chased them along until they made it to the horses’ hideout, or died in the snow, and the stallions didn’t try to help them nor were the other horses strong enough to go back and get them
TRAINED the stallions had their way with the mares and Cato, like the other young colts and fillies both from his herd and other captured herds, were trained brutally to fight against each other and the band of stallions explained that they were training them for a secret army, and that their master was looking for the finest colts and fillies to fight in the coming war; Cato was made to fight the other colts for practice in battle later on and he kept winning, driven by blind rage at the stallions who took his mother and father from him and destroyed his life, and he didn’t even feel it after a while when he killed another young horse but only felt the rush of adrenaline in the fight, and the power in his blood when he was one of the few who triumphed and was selected to fight in their army.

PERSONA

AMBITIOUS the fighting has made him into a strong, ruthless warrior and he revels in the drive to win and conquer over any opponent facing him; he can’t stand being ordered around and held back prefers to just be cut loose, because war has become his life, and he can’t abandon it now.
RASH sometimes acts on his hate or in the spur of the moment rather than thinking it through first, and that has led more than a few lives to be endangered, but he believes that it’s every colt for himself, and he isn’t well known for being generous; he’s a skillful fighter and when he’s in the right mood he won’t be distracted and sometimes thinks irrationally, but he plans things out sensibly and tends to live on the edge and isn’t afraid of taking risks, and he never forgets a grudge.

POWER

a heightened sense of alertness in battle and incredible bursts of speed or strength when he needs it in the heat of the fighting, and he can morph into a kind of big cat or wild dog when he needs the extra strength
